this is how I spent my Christmas.
a project I did for some friends. they are nine tiny little 4"x 4" canvases. and I actually took pictures off the whole process from the beginning. BUT (and that's rather typical for me) not of the final pieces.
so the version you see here is the step before the last. I actually went back and did some more drawing and playing around with lines and stuff...
I had them all wrapped up in tissue paper and had people pick them out of a bag... instead of giving them out. that way each person would select his/her own piece, because they each have a line from a book on them, sort of like a fortune cookie message. anyway... a little cheesy I know...but hey, it's Christmas after all. And in Germany Dec. 26 is part of Christmas... you don't get any calls from your phone company trying to sell you a new "super duper package deal" (as happened to me today while I was wrapping those little paintings...which is probably while I forgot to take a photo of them BEFORE)
enough ranting... hope everybody had a splendid good time!
I can't wait for the new year! it's going to be great, I can feel it!
Oooh, these are beautiful. I keep coming back to look at them. I have a question. Some of the painting looks like it could almost be a clipping from a newspaper, like the numbers and the word collections. How did you do those?

they are from the newspaper.
it's like a fast gel transfer. it works very well with newspapers because the ink rubs off very easily. you just brush some gel medium on your canvas, stick the newspaper on it and burnish it a little bit. and then you just pull the newspaper right off (before it dries, if you wait too long, the paper actually sticks to the canvas as well...)
you'll have to play around with it a little. of course the letters and number are all mirrored...
Ah, the infamous gel medium. I keep hearing about this stuff, but have yet to get any. Well, while on the subject, do you have a favorite kind of gel medium? I know there are a few varieties and a few different brands. Any opinions on which is best? (or perhaps which is maybe not the absolute best, but still rather decent for a lower price?)

how beautiful!!!!
I really like each piece and of course the whole thing! Lovely colors and shadings. Did you use wallpaper for the ornaments or is it just acrylpaint?
